Providers Clinical Support System

Training is designed to increase the knowledge base and clinical proficiency of prescribers and providers from diverse multi-disciplinary healthcare backgrounds. An on-line curriculum includes training materials expanded from Providers’ Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (PCSS-O) and Physicians’ Clinical Support System for Buprenorphine (PCSS-B) to include significant additional content such as: patient selection and matching with treatment setting (residential, outpatient program,  office-based) and specific medications (methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone); practical guidelines for detoxification (both outpatient and inpatient); implementing antagonist-based treatment, managing long-term maintenance on medications; transitioning from agonist- to antagonist-based treatment; managing substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders; treatment of individuals with co-occurring medical problems and chronic pain; treatment in specialized populations such as adolescents, elderly, pregnant women, and those involved in veterans and criminal justice healthcare systems .

American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)

The ABPP serves the public need by providing oversight certifying psychologists competent to deliver high quality services in various specialty areas of psychology. Board certification (awarding a certificate in a specialty) assures the public that specialists designated by the ABPP have successfully completed the educational, training, and experience requirements of the specialty, including an examination designed to assess the competencies required to provide quality services in that specialty.

The American Board of Professional Psychology was incorporated in 1947 with the support of the American Psychological Association. The ABPP is a unitary governing body of separately incorporated specialty examining boards which assures the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of specialty standards and examinations by its member boards. Through its Central Office, a wide range of administrative support services are provided to ABPP Boards, Board Certified Specialists, and the public.

A Specialty is a defined area in the practice of psychology that connotes special competency acquired through an organized sequence of formal education, training, and experience.  In order to qualify as a specialty affiliated with the ABPP, a specialty must be represented by an examining board which is stable, national in scope, and reflects the current development of the specialty. A specialty board is accepted for affiliation following an intensive self-study and a favorable review by the ABPP affirming that the standards for affiliation have been met. These standards include a thorough description of the area of practice and the pattern of competencies required therein as well as requirements for education, training, experience, research bases of the specialty, practice guidelines, and a demonstrated capacity to examine candidates for the specialty on a national level.

Mental Health Europe is an umbrella organization which represents associations, organizations and individuals active in the field of mental health and well-being in Europe, including (ex)users of mental health services, volunteers and professionals. As such, MHE bridges the gap between its 73 member organizations and the European institutions, and keeps its members informed and involved in any developments at European Union level.

MHE’s work takes different forms. As the main mental health organization active in Brussels, MHE is committed to advocating for its cause, whether this takes the form of submitting amendments to legislation, consulting with the European Commission, forming alliances with other organizations or being part of expert groups. Mental health Europe also develops and coordinates its own projects, conducts and disseminates research. Working to inform the general public on the plight of people with mental health problems, Mental Health Europe also cooperates closely with the media, and is often featured in prominent media outlets in Brussels and beyond.

FABBS is a coalition of scientific societies that share an interest in advancing the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior. Our goal is to promote human potential and well-being through research knowledge gained from these sciences. We communicate the importance and contributions of basic and applied research in these areas to policy makers and the public. We work in close cooperation with scientific societies in the fields of social science, psychology, education, and neuroscience. Academic units and corporations that share these goals support the organization as affiliates.

Our sister organization, FABBS Foundation, was created in 2004 to conduct educational activities that enhance understanding of the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior. FABBS Foundation also recognizes eminent, senior scientists who have made significant contributions to our sciences.

FABBS represents the interests of its scientific societies by:

Educating federal representatives and Congress about the importance of research in the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior

Advocating for legislation and policy that enhance training and research

Providing sources of expertise and knowledge to federal agencies, Congress, and the media

Encouraging the sound use of science in the creation of public policy

Fostering effective interaction between agencies and organizations that fund research and the community of scientists and scientific societies

The development of useful basic principles, workable applied theories linked to these principles, effective applied technologies based on these theories, and successful means of training and disseminating these developments, guided by the best available scientific evidence

The development of a view of science that values a dynamic, ongoing interaction between its basic and applied elements, and between practical application and empirical knowledge

Development of a community of scholars, researchers, educators, and practitioners who will work in a collegial, open, self-critical, non-discriminatory, and mutually supportive way that is effective in producing valued outcomes and in exploring the additional implications of this work, and that emphasizes open and low cost methods of connecting with this work so as to keep the focus on benefit to others.
