QuackWatch

Quackwatch has grown considerably. To help visitors with special areas of interest, we maintain 22 additional sites for autism, chiropractic, dentistry, multilevel marketing, and many other hot topics. We are also closely affiliated with the National Council Against Health Fraud, which cosponsors our free weekly newsletter, and with Bioethics Watch, which highlights issues of questionable research on humans. Our Internet Health Pilot site provides links to hundreds of reliable health sites. Our Casewatch site contains a large library of legal cases, licensing board actions, government sanctions, and regulatory actions against questionable medical products.

Dual Diagnosis Website

This site is designed to provide information and resources for service providers, consumers, and family members who are seeking assistance and/or education in this field.

The ultimate goal is to improve our service delivery systems. Our present systems have evolved to address singular/discrete disorders. It is entirely possible to reshape our mental health and substance abuse systems, and communities of care across systems, to provide comprehensive services to all consumers. In doing so, these programs will be able to provide effective interventions for persons who have dual/multiple disorders.

Raging Alcoholic

I assume alcoholism or problem drinking is affecting you in someway. A way you really aren’t happy about.

We’re here to give you information and access to resources. Following are a couple of facts about the problem.

  • It affects about 1 out of 13 adults in the United States.
  • Most studies say that over 50% of adults report having one or more close family members affected by the problem.
  • That 2/3 of Americans drink but, 10% of those who drink, drink over 50% of the alcohol.
  • That every problem drinker is expected to significantly impact at least 4 or 5 people.

There aren’t a lot of us but, we create some serious problems.

Encephalitis

Made famous by the awe-inspiring Dr. Oliver Sacks, encephalitis lethargica is one of many disorders in the group of encephalitis.  From the movie Awakenings, which was one of the most popular medical influenced movies of all time, encephalitis is called “the sleeping sickness.”

There are more disorders, however; to encephalitis then encephalitis lethargica.    It behooves us not to forget that there are those out there still suffering from any form of encephalitis.  The Encephalitis Society was established in 1994, in response to the overwhelming lack of information on encephalitis for people affected by the condition and their need for mutual support in coming to terms with its consequences. The operating name of the organisation was changed to the Encephalitis Society – action for support, awareness and research in May 2003 to reflect the wider breadth of the work undertaken.
