There & Back

There & Back Again is a non-profit reintegration program offered at no cost to veterans of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Because of their combat service abroad, many veterans return home with a myriad of complex emotional issues, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). TABA offers a structured program of yoga, meditation and alternative approaches to healing the whole body to help veterans transition back to their lives stateside.

Our objective is teach veterans how to use breath awareness, meditation and yoga to manage their symptoms of PTSD, to improve their relationships with loved ones, to begin to fully participate in their lives, and to give back to their fellow veterans through TABA’s Train the Trainer program. TABA is comprised of respected professionals who are dedicated to the healing of our military men and women, and our program is based on both the latest research on the benefits of alternative therapies and staff and advisory board members’ personal successes managing symptoms of PTSD.

A multifaceted approach to wellness, including yoga, Reiki, acupuncture, meditation and other alternative therapies help empower veterans to manage their own challenges of reintegration.

There & Back Again incorporates a whole body approach to wellness.  Recognizing the three parts of our “self” – our mind/thoughts, our physical body and our emotional/spiritual self.  A combat experience is an extreme experience that can disconnect us from one or all of aspects of our “self.”  There & Back Again provides Veterans an opportunity to reconnect and reintegrate all parts of their “self.”

Many Veterans have found that these tools, along with traditional therapies, help them manage their challenges better allowing them to fully participate in their lives.

In honor of those of you who served our country and in honor of the United States Veterans Day, November 11th, I have decided to post this very awesome resource–the Center for Deployment Psychology.

The CDP mission is to prepare health care professionals to better meet the deployment-related emotional and psychological needs of military personnel and their families. More than two million service members have deployed during the conflicts overseas, including many who have deployed multiple times. With these increased deployments, service members and their families undergo increased stress and psychological health challenges.

To meet its mission, CDP trains health care professionals through live presentations, online learning resources, ongoing consultation and state-of-the-art education, coordinating activities across a nationwide network of training sites at 11 military medical centers.

Don’t ever feel that it is hopeless.  Don’t ever give up.  There is always someone willing to listen,to talk to you and listen to what you have to say.    With the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, there is a free, 24 hour hotline you can call that will enable you to not feel that all is lost.  It will let you speak to others and understand that you are not alone and to help you along in life.  It is important to keep moving on in life–not to give up.   You can volunteer and donate here as well.  There are crisis centers for that, and most importantly, remember you can call anytime whenever you need help.  People are always here to help.  You are important, and you are worth the time, forever and a day.

National Alliance for Grieving Children

The National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC) provides a network for nationwide communication between hundreds of  professionals and volunteers who want to share ideas, information and resources with each other to better support the grieving children and families they serve in their own communities. Through this network, the NAGC offers online education, hosts an annual symposium on children’s grief, maintains a national data base of children’s bereavement support programs and promotes national awareness to enhance public sensitivity to the issues impacting grieving children and teens.
