Black/African centered psychology recognizes: the Spirit that permeates everything that is; the notion that everything in the universe is interconnected; the value that the collective is the most
salient element of existence; and the idea that communal self knowledge is the key to mental health. Black/African Centered psychology is ultimately concerned with understanding the
systems of meaning of human beingness, the features of human functioning, and the restoration of normal/natural order to human development. As such, it is used to resolve personal and social problems and to promote optimal functioning.
Dr. Kevin Washington, current President of ABPsi, states:  “ABPsi values the Black mind and its expressions. We recognize that the mental well-being is a necessary aspect of optimal physical and financial wellness. We know that the various events of police brutality, political grand standing, environmental racism, and inequitable educational policies have a deleterious effect on the minds of Black people. We express that all such events are a Black Mind Matter. We are here for the restoration and elevation of the Black Mind and moreover we strive for the profound expression of humanity. We are that voice that states that Black Minds are not to be hampered because there is greatness within Black minds.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)

AACAP partners with our members in advocacy efforts at the federal and state levels to improve policies and services for children and adolescents with mental illness. We work to educate policymakers and administrators about issues affecting child and adolescent psychiatry and children’s mental health and regularly engage our members on pertinent legislation and regulatory activities. AACAP continually develops resources for members to use as they communicate with policymakers about issues related to child and adolescent psychiatry and children’s mental health. Through AACAP’s Legislative Action Center, you can take action on our current federal advocacy alerts, correspond with your members of Congress and the Administration, and contact your local media. The Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) – Community Psychology, Division 27 of the American Psychological Association – serves many different disciplines that focus on community research and action. Our members are committed to promoting health and empowerment and to preventing problems in communities, groups, and individuals.Four broad principles guide SCRA: Community research and action requires explicit attention to and respect for diversity among peoples and settings; human competencies and problems are best understood by viewing people within their social, cultural, economic, geographic, and historical contexts; community research and action is an active collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and community members that uses multiple methodologies. Such research and action must be undertaken to serve those community members directly concerned, and should be guided by their needs and preferences, as well as by their active participation; and finally to change strategies are needed at multiple levels in order to foster settings that promote competence and well-being.

The International OCD Foundation is a donor-supported nonprofit organization. Founded in 1986 by a small group of individuals with OCD, the Foundation has grown into an international membership-based organization serving a broad community of individuals with OCD and related disorders their family members and loved ones and mental health professionals and researchers. We have affiliates in 25 states and territories in the US, in addition to global partnerships with other OCD organizations and mental health non-profits around the world.

The Foundation aims to improve outcomes for individuals with OCD and related disorders by providing resources and support for those affected by OCD, including individuals with OCD and related disorders, their family members, friends, and loved ones, promoting awareness about OCD and related disorders to the OCD community and the general public and increasing access to effective treatment through educating mental health professionals about evidence-based treatments providing a forum for professional collaboration and networking and finally, supporting research into the causes of and treatments for OCD and related disorders.

Providers Clinical Support System

Training is designed to increase the knowledge base and clinical proficiency of prescribers and providers from diverse multi-disciplinary healthcare backgrounds. An on-line curriculum includes training materials expanded from Providers’ Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (PCSS-O) and Physicians’ Clinical Support System for Buprenorphine (PCSS-B) to include significant additional content such as: patient selection and matching with treatment setting (residential, outpatient program,  office-based) and specific medications (methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone); practical guidelines for detoxification (both outpatient and inpatient); implementing antagonist-based treatment, managing long-term maintenance on medications; transitioning from agonist- to antagonist-based treatment; managing substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders; treatment of individuals with co-occurring medical problems and chronic pain; treatment in specialized populations such as adolescents, elderly, pregnant women, and those involved in veterans and criminal justice healthcare systems .

American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)

American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)

The ABPP serves the public need by providing oversight certifying psychologists competent to deliver high quality services in various specialty areas of psychology. Board certification (awarding a certificate in a specialty) assures the public that specialists designated by the ABPP have successfully completed the educational, training, and experience requirements of the specialty, including an examination designed to assess the competencies required to provide quality services in that specialty.

The American Board of Professional Psychology was incorporated in 1947 with the support of the American Psychological Association. The ABPP is a unitary governing body of separately incorporated specialty examining boards which assures the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of specialty standards and examinations by its member boards. Through its Central Office, a wide range of administrative support services are provided to ABPP Boards, Board Certified Specialists, and the public.

A Specialty is a defined area in the practice of psychology that connotes special competency acquired through an organized sequence of formal education, training, and experience.  In order to qualify as a specialty affiliated with the ABPP, a specialty must be represented by an examining board which is stable, national in scope, and reflects the current development of the specialty. A specialty board is accepted for affiliation following an intensive self-study and a favorable review by the ABPP affirming that the standards for affiliation have been met. These standards include a thorough description of the area of practice and the pattern of competencies required therein as well as requirements for education, training, experience, research bases of the specialty, practice guidelines, and a demonstrated capacity to examine candidates for the specialty on a national level.

NAADAC The Association for Addiction Professionals

The addiction profession workforce is estimated at more than 85,000 individuals that include counselors, educators, and other addiction-focused health care professionals who specialize in addiction prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery support, and education.

Most addiction professionals are employed in the following industries: outpatient care centers; residential mental retardation, mental health and substance abuse facilities; individual and family services; local government; general medical and surgical hospitals; psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals; and private practice. Many other addiction professionals work in prisons, probation or parole agencies, juvenile detention facilities, halfway houses, detox centers and employee assistance programs.
